This Wasn't meant to Be

This Wasn’t Meant to Be
My alarm goes off, and I sit up to rub my eyes. The sun was shining through my window and onto my face. I stretch for a bit then got out of bed. I grab my phone and head to the bathroom. I take a glance in the mirror before I turn the shower on. I get in, feeling the hot water run down my back.
Once I was done washing my hair and body, I turned the water off and grabbed a towel from the hook. I dry myself off and get my clothes on.  I take my tooth brush and apply toothpaste to the top of it. I put the toothpaste down and bring the toothbrush towards my teeth, and begin to scrub at my teeth. Suddenly, I hear a loud noise go off. It came from outside. I spit out what was left of the tooth paste and rush down the stairs and out the door.
I glanced around trying to notice something usual, but there was nothing. Everything was as it seemed to be every morning. The sun was shinning, the birds were chirping, and people were getting into cars. I stood there in my yard half ready for school when the bus pulled up. I facepalmed myself and ran back inside, so anyone could hardly glance at me. My face was red, and I wouldn’t have any time to finish getting ready, so I called my friend Elena.
“Hey E, can you give me a ride to school?” I asked into the phone.
“Why are you up so early?” she replied with a slow voice.
“I have a long bus ride, remember?” I asked as I rolled my eyes, knowing she couldn’t see me.
She giggled, “Oh yeah!”
I paused, “So yes?” I asked into the phone as I walked into my bedroom.
“Yes, yes of course! It’ll be fun!” She exclaimed into the phone before hanging up. I tossed my phone onto my bed and and walked over to my desk. I realized I didn’t finish writing my script for my drama class.
“Oh no!” I yelled to myself as I picked up the papers. I took a seat and grabbed a pencil out.
“What’s wrong honey?” My mother asked as she peeked her head inside my doorway.
“I um.. I missed the bus so I will have to call Elena.” I lied as I acted like I was cleaning my desk, which wasn’t much of a lie since I was picking things up and throwing them in drawers. She left without a word. I took a deep breath and began to write down lines for my script. I knew this would only be a rough draft so it didn’t really matter.
A few hours later, I was in school about to enter drama class when I was knocked over by someone. I rubbed my arm before standing up. I glanced over at the person who I had ran into. He was tall and had light brown hair. Almost as if it was blonde. I then looked down at the ground noticing my papers were everywhere.
“Oh no, no, no!” I whined, my script was out of order and it was due right when the bell rang.
“I am so sorry, how can I help?” said the boy who I ran into.
“That’s the problem, you can’t help me I can’t even help myself.” I felt a few tears run down my face. I began to pick up my papers and walk into class. As I took a seat, the bell rang. My stomach began to feel upset as the teacher began collecting our scripts. I sank down slowly into my chair.
“Ms. Crockett, I need your script.” my teacher said to me as I looked down at my desk.
“I am sorry sir, but I can’t hand in my script.” I said truthfully. He shook his head.
“That’s a shame, you are a really good writer and would have been successful. You know what happens when you don’t turn your assignments in don’t you?” he asked as he stared straight at me.
“But sir, I need to take this class. It is very important, and this is the only time I have not turned something in. I promise it will not happen again,” I cried with plead as he took a moment of silence.
“I am sorry, but your spot can be easily taken by a certain someone who is just as good as you are, and that’s we will have to do,” the teacher stated as he walked away. I was shocked to hear those words come out of his mouth. I packed my stuff up and walked out of the classroom. As I walked out, I ran into that boy again.
“Are you following me or something?” I asked as my face turned red.
“No. I am heading to a class where I was denied and re-entered,” he stated.
“So you’re my replacement, great,” I said as she rolled her eyes. I kept walking along the lockers. My parents were going to send me off to boarding school if I failed this class or got kicked out. Once I made my way to my locker, I could feel heat approaching me. Soon, I saw a fire. The sirens were going off, and I had no way out. I panicked, when suddenly parts of the school collapsed around me.
***
I felt water hit my face. I shot up and looked around. It was only a dream. I still didn’t know where I was at. I got up trying to make out the faces I saw. Who were these people, and why was I here? I walked out of the room and wandered around the house. I tried to talk to the people who were there, but it was like I was invisible. Soon enough, I walked into the what looked like to be the living room and saw people crying and watching the news. The news was reporting a fire at the school I went to and how there were so many who didn’t make it out alive and haven’t been found. That’s when it hit me; I was dead.

Fat cat
There once was a cat
who was very fat.
He rolled in the grass
when people passed.
The fat cat was very lazy
and sometimes quite hazy.

Alyssa
Alyssa can be annoying
but is never boring.
Although she complains
she retains pride.
She is quite caring
but not good at sharing.
Sometimes she is loud
but can be very proud.
She is never grumpy
but sometimes jumpy.

Monkeys
Monkeys are hairy
and to smelly to marry.
They swing from tree to tree
scratching their heads
as they find their beds.

School
School is alright
when you do your homework right.
If you argue with the teacher
You’ll see your future.
Lunch is my favorite thing at school
it’s pretty cool.
You have to read
to succeed.

Khaisyn
Khaisyn likes to slobber
and hides from robbers.
He screams and laughs

He is very clumsy
and gets comfy.

Karlos
My brother is very busy
he gets really dizzy.
He tries to sing

And when he’s in trouble, he likes to blame.

and a little bit classy.
She is very clingy
but she is a mini me.

She is very mean
and never clean.
She is quite beautiful
and acts like she is in a musical.

and is very belligerent.
She likes to hit

The Accidental Hostage

The bell rang. I grabbed my stuff and threw it all into my bag, zipping it up afterwards. I swung my bag over my shoulders and walked out into the hall to meet my friend, Adina. While I waited for her I noticed something different about today.
The cheerleaders didn’t walk into the school side by side, the teachers weren’t in their classrooms and Adina wasn’t on time. She is always on time. I pulled my phone out and dialed her number. The phone rang for awhile before going straight to voicemail; I called her again, hoping she would pick up this time. I was wrong, it went to voicemail again.
I shoved my phone back in my pocket and went to the front office, I signed out and headed to my car unlocking it before I got there. I got in and buckled up. Then I started up my car and drove a few blocks until I got to Adina’s house. Once I got there I got out and walked up the stairs, leading to her door. I walked inside without knocking and hollered, asking if anyone was home. I didn’t get a response.
“Hello?” I asked once more. Silence.
I walked up the stairs to Adina’s room and looked around, no sign of her being here. I walked down the hall to the bathroom then her little brother’s room. Still no sign of anyone home. I then walked back down the stairs and was about to leave when I heard a noise. I stopped my heart began to race. I slowly walked around the house, looking for someone, anyone. I heard another noise coming from the kitchen. I walked into the kitchen, still not a sign of anyone there. I walked a little further towards the basement door. The floor crept a few times as I walked slowly. I twisted the doorknob quietly, revealing the darkness. I took a deep breath before speaking.
“Anyone down there?” I asked, looking straight ahead of me.
I heard a few whispers, my heart was almost pumping out of my chest now. I bit down on my bottom lip, trying not to make a sound. I backed up a bit trying to shut the door quietly behind me. I took another deep breath and walked slowly to the front door. I opened up the door once more as I felt someone's grip on my shoulder, and before I knew it, it was dark.
I woke up in a dark empty room. All I saw were a few chairs, some water bottles, and old wrinkled blankets. I noticed I was tied to a chair. I tried to untie myself but failed. Moments later I heard someone coming down the flight of stairs. I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep.
“She is right here sir,” A man said with a scratchy voice. I kept quiet.
“Good job Christopher,” another man said as he walked toward me. I tried my best to sit still yet relaxed so it looked like I was sleeping.
“How are you sure this is the right girl I am looking for?” the man next to me asked.
“I am not one-hundred percent sure she is the right one sir,” said Christopher. I pretended to wake up. I looked around, acting scared.
“Well hello there,” the other man said. I looked away quickly.
“Don’t be shy sweetie,” he said as he took a seat next to me.
“Your name is Adina Mae Bruce, right?” the man asked as I took a small peek at him.
“What if it isn’t?” I asked, looking down at the ground.
“Then Christopher did his job wrong once again,” the man replied. I nodded my head.
“Well my name is Berkeley Rosa Bryer sir,” I stated with confidence so he wouldn’t think I was lying.
“Christopher!” The man yelled as he jerked his head towards him. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
“I am so sorry sir, I was believed she was the right one. I swear.” Christopher pleaded as he stared at me. I looked the other way quickly.
“Pardon me sir but why am I still here if I am not the right one?” I asked, hoping for a calm response. The man took a deep breath and began to speak.
“We wouldn’t want you going around telling everyone someone kidnapped you on accident now would we?” the man said as he stood up, walking to the door.
“Well the girl you are looking for happens to be my friend. Why do you want her?” I asked, trying to state the obvious.
“Her father owes us money that he won’t give to us, therefor we want to take something from him until he pays us,” Christopher blurted.
“Her father isn’t even alive anymore,” I said plainly. They both looked at me when I finished saying those last words. I looked down trying not to cry.
“Well then, I guess we don’t have a purpose for his daughter, right Chris?”  the man asked with a smirk on his face. I let a few tears fall down my face.
“No sir, but we need the money still.” Chris replied as my head shot up.
“We will just keep the girl hostage until her parents pay up the money their friend owes,” said the man as he untied me and picked me up, putting me into a room and locking the door behind him as he left me there all alone.
I cried to myself knowing my life was in danger and I couldn’t do anything about it until my parents payed the men money for someone else’s actions. Hours later I woke up tied back in the same chair. There were more people this time, most of them were guys. I saw a little kid in the far back,  a boy I believe. I squinted my eyes a little trying to see the boy’s face. Then it hit me. The little boy was my step-brother. He was being tortured, by watching me suffer.
“What is my brother doing here?” I yelled as my eyes filled with tears.
“To watch you suffer,” A man said as he came close to me with a gun. He loaded the gun and held it to the right side of me head. Chris got his phone out and began to record me, saying a few things about the money and how they had my brother as well. I was sure the video was for my parents. I laid my head down as the man counted down the time before wanting to pull the trigger.
“Wait!” A weak voice said as the man got to the number three.
I shot my head up, noticing it was my brother who spoke. I shook my head left to right, telling him no.
“Don’t kill her,” my brother spoke softly. I cried more, knowing they would hurt him next.
“Well if we don’t kill her then it will have to be you that goes,” Chris said with a chuckle.
“No! Just stop, please,” I said, scanning the room.
“My parents won’t pay you guys anything if you kill us,” I stated as I stopped my eyes from watering.
“That’s too bad, I am quite sure they wouldn’t want both of you gone now, would they?” A woman said as she picked up a gun and loaded it.
She walked to my little brother and held the gun against his forehead. I cried more as she pulled the trigger slowly before letting go. That was it, my brother was gone. Blood shot out as he became weak, letting his head dangle from his neck. I screamed at everyone, pulling and kicking all around.
I was hurt. Soon enough I felt the strings become loose. I stood up and began to run to the back of the room where I saw an open window. I quickly climbed out and ran as far and as fast as I could. I made it to town, and I wasn’t sure where my parents would be so I ran to the police station.
Once I got there I told them everything and they went out to find the place where I was held at. My parents showed up at the police station, I told them about my brother Kolby. They cried and cried but were thankful I made it out of there, unharmed. The men were found, months later and were sent to jail.

Weeks after the men were captured I was walking home alone in the dark where I felt someone following me, I stopped and waited to see if anyone was there. Soon enough I heard something clicked and everything was dark.

Mysteries at the White House

I loaded the car with the rest of my boxes. Today was moving day, the day where I said my goodbyes to my friends, teachers, and neighbors. The day where I cleaned my room out completely, and hoped for a bigger room in the next house. Moving was a yearly thing for our family. My dad would get a better job each year, so we would move closer to it. I made friends easily which was good, considering I moved a lot.
We were in the car, driving to Washington D.C. where my dad would be working for the president. I was excited for this move because the president was allowing us to live in his house since he had so many guest rooms. It was a long drive there but it was worth the wait. I had been reading the whole way there, it was the only way I got out of playing card games with my little brother, Damian. He was going into the fifth grade this year, and I will be going into the tenth grade. Two more years, and I will be out of the once a year moving trip.
By the time we got there it was 5:33 a.m. and the sun was rising. I have never been up this early as to see the sun rise. I was happy. As soon as my dad parked I grabbed my bag, swung it over my shoulders and headed to the side door, leading to our rooms. There were guards of course, and we had to be identified which took about fifteen minutes. Once it was done I ran up the beautiful grand stairs. They were easy to slide on. They were gold and silver with a little bit of blue. What I noticed right away was that they were hand carved.
“Whoa!” I blurted as my eyes widened. I heard someone approach me so I quickly spun around to face a girl. She was a little bit shorter than me, her hair was golden blonde and super straight. She was wearing a bright pink dress that had flowers around the waist. She waved at me with a smile.
“Hello there, you must be Ainsley?” She spoke softly as she stared at me.
“Indeed I am,” I said as I looked at her, still smiling. “And you are?” I asked, waiting for a response.
“My name is Marilynn, I am well known as the president’s daughter.” She replied with a giggle.
“Are you the only child?” I asked, trying to keep conversation. She shook her head from left to right.
“No, I have an older brother named Micah.” she said, taking a seat on the second step. I sat beside her.
“Where is he at?” I asked, trying to keep conversation. She looked down.
“He is working,” Marilynn said quietly, “Like always.” she mumbled.
“ I better get unpacking,” I blurted as I stood up, turning to walk up the stairs.
“Alrighty, dinner's at seven o’clock sharp, so don’t be late.” She said as simple as possible before skipping down the hall. I shook my head up and down and ran up the stairs, looking in the three bedrooms, hoping it was mine. Once I found my room I threw my bag onto the floor and plopped down onto the bed. Closing my eyes, as I fell into a deep sleep. I was woken up by my brother knocking at my door. I walked slowly towards my door, opening it once I got there.
“Gross! You look like a zombie!” Damian shouted once he saw my face. I face-palmed myself.
“Gee thanks, Damian. Word of advice, don’t ever say that to a girl.” I said as I slammed my door in his face. He knocked again.
“Go away Damian!” I yelled at the door.
“It’s not Damian.” A girl said from the other side of the door.
“Marilynn?” I questioned.
“Yeah, it’s me. Sorry if I woke you.” She apologized. I walked to the door and opened it.
“No you didn’t, Damian already did.” I said, letting her inside my room. She came in, taking a seat on the edge of my bed.
“This has always been my favorite guest room.” Marilynn blurted. I smiled.
“I like it.” I said, then we heard a bang come from outside, a scream following it. I ran to my window, hoping to see something but all there was, was smoke. I ran out of my room and down the stairs. Once I was down there I ran to the main entrance, pushing the doors open.
“What’s going on!” I yelled, trying to see through the smoke. I made it to the play set to see Damian lying there. I wasn’t sure if he was dead or not. I began to cry as I fell to my knees. My father and mother came running towards me. My father yelled something but I couldn’t hear him. Soon enough he was crying with us. I looked around me, I was suddenly surrounded by flashing lights that were red, white, and blue. I turned to look at my brother, when I saw someone take off with him.
I got up off the ground and ran after the person, but they were faster than me. I went as far as I could till I ran out of breath. I fell to my knees and cried. I was confused. Soon enough it was night time and I decided to go back home before my parents worried more.
When I got home the police were there. I snuck past them, up to my room. I shut the door behind me and crawled into bed , thinking to myself. What if they kill him? Where is he? Is he fine? Why did they take him. I couldn’t answer those questions so I got up out of bed and walked over to my closet. I stepped up onto my tippy toes and reached for a small folder, sitting on my shelf and pulled it down towards me. I read the front of the folder, it read “For my beautiful daughter, Ainsley.” It was from my real mother who told me to wait until I was ready to know everything, and I was so I opened it up and began to read.
To be continued...

Mysterious Day

Mysterious Day

It was a cold morning in the town of Roseville, and the leaves were falling. Kimberly had woken up early for school. She quickly got dressed and ran down the stairs. She then sat down at the table as her father made her breakfast. Today was her first day at her new school since her family moved to get a fresh start. Her father made her some waffles and she ate them all. Once she finished ,she got up,  grabbed her bag, and headed out the door.
When she got to school and got out of the car she started feeling a bit nervous. She said her goodbyes to her dad and baby sister and shut the door. The bell rang, and she ran through school, not knowing where to go. Once she found the right class she walked in as the room fell silent. All eyes were on her as she walked to the teacher.
“Class we have a new student. Her name is Kimberly Jones, and she moved here all the way from..” The teacher pauses as she waits for Kimberly to finish her sentence.
“North Carolina,” Kimberly finished as everyone stared at her.
“Would you like to tell us about yourself?” Asked the teacher. Kimberly walks in front of the class and looked at everyone as she began to speak.
“Well I have two sisters, one is younger and her name is Mckenna and the older one is named Maybelle,” She pauses. “And umm, I like to ride horses and play sports. My mother passed away a few weeks ago, and that’s why we moved over here.. to get a fresh start with things.” She stops and looks at the teacher.
“Well you get to sit next to Brinley, in the back row.” The teacher says as she points to a desk. Kimberly walks over and sits down.
“My name is Mrs. Hover by the way.” And with that she started to teach.
As the day went by Kimberly followed Brinley to all her classes, and she became good friends with her. As the bell rang for their dismissal she waited for the bus to come. After about ten minutes the bus arrived and a few people got on. She sat alone in front and did her homework when something hit her on the head. She dropped her homework and felt her head. She felt dizzy, so she stood up and told the bus driver.
The bus driver told her that she would be alright, so Kimberly sat back down and looked out the window. Eventually the bus stopped at her house and she got off. She was still dizzy and started walking towards the trees. She didn’t know where she was going by then and stopped and leaned against a tree. She started crying and buried her face in her hands.
She woke up a  few hours later and was confused. She grabbed her stuff and walked towards a river. She still didn’t know where she was or how far away home was.  She set her stuff down and took her shoes off. She set her shoes aside and stuck her feet in the water.  She looked up, thinking about her mom. After a few minutes she slipped her shoes back on and got up. She started walking towards a house, thinking it was hers. Once she got closer she realized it wasn’t her house. She went up to the door and knocked. She waited for a bit and was about to leave when she heard the door open.
“Hello?” A soft voice spoke. Kimberly looked at the young girl, it was Brinley.
“Sorry..I am just a bit lost,” Kimberly said looking down at her shoes.
“Come in, come in.” Brinley said as she opened the door wider. Kimberly walked in and looked around.
“Nice house.” Kimberly complimented
“Thank you,” Brinley said “Where do you live anyways?” She asked
“River Road, a bit out of town of course since I’m all the way out here,” Kimberly giggled.
“I know where that is… actually not far from here,” Said Brinley.
“Mind helping me get there?” Asked Kimberly
“Sure, come on!” Smiled Brinley.
And with that the girls took off out the door, running through trees and jumping over branches. As they ran a bit longer Kimberly noticed they weren’t heading anywhere near town. She slowly stopped and looked around.
“Umm.. where are we going Brinley?” She asked a bit scared. Brinley stopped ahead of her.
“I don’t know what you mean.. Your house is right there.” She said as she pointed. Kimberly started to get dizzy again and fell to the ground. Brinley became worried and ran to Kimberly’s house. She banged on the doors until someone opened it.
“What’s the matter young lady?” Kimberly’s dad asked.
“Kimberly.. She fainted.” Brinley stopped, still worried. Kimberly’s dad ran outside as Brinley led him to Kimberly. He picked her up and drove her to the hospital. Once they got there she rushed inside. A couple doctors took Kimberly into an empty room and laid her down on the bed. After a few hours Kimberly woke up and looked around. She started breathing heavily because the last time she was in a hospital, her mom passed away.
“Hello?” Kimberly asked. No one answered, she panicked more and soon there was a loud beeping noise, and everything went black.
