The French Chef

Julia Carolyn McWilliams, also known as JuJu or Jukie, was born in Pasadena, California. Growing up she had a younger sister, Dorothy, and a younger brother, John McWilliams III. Julia found an interest in reading when she was in Smith College. Later on she graduated with a degree in history, and she moved to Manhattan to become a writer.

After a year or so of living in Manhattan she went back to California. Her mother gets really sick and dies of high blood pressure. During World War II Julia is hired to type for the U.S. Information Agency in Washington D.C. She traveled to China, continuing that job, and meets Paul Child.

Paul and Julia went back to the U.S. and took time to get to know each other. Julia drove  across the country with Paul to meet his family and twin brother where they announced that they were getting married. Paul took a job that requires a lot of moving, so they moved from Washington to Paris, Germany, and Norway. Julia has her first meal at La Couronne in France. She describes it as “the most exciting meal of my life!”

      Julia enrolled in a cooking school, Le Cordon Bleu, and she graduates, but she fails her first exam. Julie pairs up with two French women, Simon and Louisette. They work together on a French cookbook which takes a few years to publish. She goes on a T.V. show, and from there she launches her own show. As Julia continued her show, she is featured in Time magazine. She is described as a 6 foot 2 inch tall star of The French Chef.

Julia's second book, The French Chef Cookbook, is a compilation of all her recipes which she also publishes. Paul starts to have chest pains for a few years, and he is diagnosed with blocked blood vessels. He gets bypass surgery to fix his heart. After surgery, Paul continues to have strokes and Julia cut down her traveling and work time.

Once again Julia publishes another book called From Julia Child’s Kitchen. After a few years of her book being published, she continues her show on PBS. She also gets more rewards in honor of her cooking. When Julia's face appears on Parade Magazine, the editors say it was perfect because of her detailed explanations.

When Julia turned eighty, and she attended a lot of parties in Boston, Los Angeles, New York, and of course at home in Cambridge. When Julia is away, Paul dies at 92 from a long time illness in a nursing home. Julia takes time to recover from her husband's death, and when she recovers she airs on Jacque Pepin's cooking show.

The following year, Julia receives many awards for her cooking. Julia and Jacques Pepin do a lot of shows, and she’s awarded an Emmy for being an outstanding host. In 2002, Julia donated her stage kitchen to the Smithsonian National museum. Her kitchen is a very popular exhibit, and it is still very popular exhibit today. On August 13, 2004, Julia died of kidney failure two days before her 92nd birthday.

My Life in France, a memoir, is written by Julia's nephew, Alex Prud’homme. Julia’s 100th  birthday is celebrated in 2012. It brings back many memories. In memory of Julia and other amazing chefs that passed away. The U.S Postal service temporarily puts them on a stamp.

In total Julia published 15 books about French cooking. She always wanted to be an author, and she’s found a way to be a cook, and an author at the same time. In 2009, Amy Adams and Meryl Streep makes a movie called Julie & Julia where she has to complete 524 recipes from her cookbook. The movie is released on August 7, 2009.

Julie & Julia won 5 awards for great acting and impersonation. The movie explains most of the 524 recipes from Julia Child’s cookbook. It shows the struggle of some of the dishes and how hard they could really be. It also shows the life of a New Yorker growing up in the big city.

All of Julia Child’s cook books explain how to cook and how to use the right utensils. Julia made sure you understood thoroughly through her instructions before you move on to the next step. Julia was always very thorough when working with people. She always had the patience when she was prepping for an episode. Each episode usually took 19 hours to prep.

The French Chef aired on T.V. for ten years, and then Julia Child and Company was on for a year. She had many different series of shows explaining different things about cooking. Like Julia Child said, “with enough butter anything is is good.” This was true. Julia child loved to use butter in everything. She used so much through all the years that she ended up using 753 pounds of it. She said if you don’t want to use butter, use cream!

Grace Kelly was born on November 12, 1929, in Philadelphia. Grace’s dad, Jack Kelly, won three olympic gold medals in sculling. Her mother, Margaret Kelly, taught physical education at the University of Philadelphia and was the first female coach for women's athletics at the University of Philadelphia. Her mother was also a beauty queen and model. Grace had two older siblings, Margaret Kelly, John Jr. Kelly, and one younger sister Elizabeth Kelly. Her older brother, John Jr. won the James E. Sullivan Award for the countrys top amature athlete. Her family was very wealthy and well known.

Grace went to a very prestigious catholic girls school. She modeled in many fashion events with her mother and sisters. She was the lead role in the play “Don’t Feed the Animals” . Grace was in many school and local plays starting at the age of twelve. Before Kelly graduated she decided she wanted to pursue her dream of acting. Even though her parents disapproved, she applied to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. When she had applied, the school had already met it’s semester. She was lucky enough to have scored an interview with the administrator. While she was in school she worked part time as a model to help pay for bills. Then finally in 1950, all of her hard work had payed off.

Director John Ford noticed Grace on a screenplay and automatically knew she would be a star. She soon flew to Los Angeles to audition for many productions. In 1952 she was signed a contract for her first big role in the film Mogambo. After succeeding in Magambo, directors from all over the country was noticing her. She starred in T.V shows, movies, and musicals. She was the leading role for five films and starred in many others. Grace became very involved with the world around her.

In 1955 she met Prince Rainier third, the prince of Monaco. After only three days of meeting Grace and her family he proposed. She said yes and the family started planning. It was being recognized as the “wedding of the century”. Sadly, the marriage meant the end of Kelly’s acting career . The wedding was very religious. It costed an estimated 2 million and over 20,000 people lined the streets of Monaco to witness it. A few years later, they had three children. Their names are, Caroline Princess of Hanover, Albert 2nd Prince of Monaco, and Princess Stephanie of Monaco.

Grace soon became involved in charities and social events. She put her money to good use and volunteered and donated money to third world countries. She traveled all around the world. Grace was awarded for her good deeds and was a spokeswoman for many social events.

Even though she was now the princess of Monaco, her acting career was not fully over. She performed in many small stage productions and movies. In 1962 she played the lead role in the movie Marine. Then in 1977, she played a role in the movie The Turning Point. Grace then decided it would be best to retire from her acting career. When she had free time, she volunteered and read poetry at the Children of Theater street.

Grace Kelly passed away on September 13, 1982. While driving back to her home in Monaco, she had a stroke. In result, she lost control of the car and drove into a steep valley. She suffered from brain damage, fractured ribs, and collarbone. Her husband decided to take her off of life support, and she soon passed after. Grace lived an exciting life.

Do you have a celebrity crush?  One that you have dreamt of meeting for as long as you know?  Well I do.  Justin Drew Bieber was born in Stratford, Ontario, Canada, on March 1, 1994.  His mother, Pattie Mallette, raised Justin as a single mother at the age of eighteen.  Justin’s father, Jeremy Bieber, soon went off and had two other children.  Justin’s mom did everything she could at the young age she was.  Justin’s grandparents stepped up also to help out with Justin. Justin and his grandpa had an inseparable bond, they talked to each other everyday, if they weren’t together.  

When Justin was younger he used to hit everything from the stairs to the bar stools, like drums.  When his mother Pattie’s friends would come over they would bring their guitars and Justin would play them like he had done it for years.  He never had any lessons; he just figured it out, she thought it was going to be just for fun.  For Justin’s second birthday Pattie bought him a drum set. People surrounding Justin saw that his beat was right on. Later he outgrew that, and then the boys from church introduced Justin to the electric guitar.  Later they raised the money to buy Justin a set of pearl drums.  He’s always had a love for music.

At the age of twelve, Justin was big around his home town.  He and his mother started putting videos of him singing Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Ne-Yo on Youtube.  After a couple of months he was an internet sensation.  Justin had many subscribers and manly likes.  Fans wanted to meet him, and an anxious manager wanted him to fly to Atlanta to think about a record label.  

Justin’s mother, Pattie, didn’t know what to think about this whole situation.  After many calls from Scooter Braun,  Pattie thought she was going to answer and get him to quit calling.  After two or three hours on the phone, he asked Pattie to bring Justin down to Atlanta to meet some people in the music industry. Pattie agreed, and Scooter picked Justin up at the airport with a purple Mercedes, and Usher pulls up in a Range Rover.  Justin has always looked up to Usher.  Scooter tells Justin to stay calm and not to say anything to him.  Then before Scooter knew it Justin runs up to Usher telling him he is his biggest fan and telling him he wants to sing a cover song for him.

Justin sings for Usher, and he has more talent than any other thirteen year old teen he has met. Usher wanted to take Justin to get signed and thought he had a lot of potential with his looks, voice, and amazing taste in music.  Scooter called the label, and they wanted more time.  He wanted to get in the studio and start working on something.  In 2008, Justin met Jen, his vocals.  Being managed by Scooter Braun and Usher they called in “Mama Jen” to get to work with her before hand.  He first sang “Common Denominator,” a single he wrote.  

That’s when it all started.  Justin released his first single in May 2009 “One Time.”  Soon his album My World was set free for the world on November 17, 2009, and within a week 137,000 copies were sold.  Four months later Justin released another album My World 2.0, on March 19, 2010.  Which increased his number of songs on Billboard Top 10.

Justin had around 200 concerts between November 2009, and 2011.  Sadly he had to cancel two concerts because of swelling of the vocal cords.  But he was getting ready for one of his biggest shows  Soon after starting his singing career one of the things that encouraged him the most, was having the opportunity to sing at Madison Square Garden.  Everyone thought poorly of Justin and thought that he couldn’t sell out Madison Square Garden.  Justin soon started writing a song called Never Say Never ft. Jaden Smith.  This single was the Justin’s opening at Square Garden telling people that he could do it, and that you can do whatever you put your mind to.

“I’m telling you, people.  Everyday we wake up is another blessing.  Follow your dreams and don’t let anyone stop you.  Never Say Never,” Justin stated.

In 2010 Justin dated Selena Gomez and broke many young teen girls hearts.  Dating Justin was hard for Selena because there were death threats on social media.  After two years Justin and Selena broke up in November 2012.   Then in 2013 Justin and Selena came back together for the Billboard Music Award.  Sooner than later they part their ways.  

Justin had an album called Believe and went on tour in September 2012.  During a show in London Justin was complaining about some breathing problems he was having.  Shortly after he  was rushed to the hospital on March 7, 2013 from fainting.   

January 2014 Justin was taken to jail for suspicion of drag racing and under the influence.  He was in jail until he was able to pay the fine of $2,500.  After that Justin stepped up, and was in a Calvin Klein commercial.  He was soon able to make a huge comeback in 2015 with the single What are you Know.  Then in October 2015 his next single What do you Mean? was released.  

On November 11, 2015 Justin announced that he will be going on his newest album Purpose Tour in 2016.  After releasing many Top 10 Song’s, Love Yourself, What do you mean?, and Sorry.  Justin has faced many bumps in the road and still finds a way to overcome them to achieve his goals in life.  

“Young people in this business have grown up and made the wrong decisions, or bad decisions, and haven't been good role models. To be someone that people look up to is important to me,” exclaims Justin.
