My Poetry

     Best Friends
   Friends are Forever
                                           Finding friends that are Real
                                     Friends have things In-common
                                                     Having friends is Enjoyable
To have an enjoyable friendship you have to be Nice
You want to have a friend to Depend on
You want a friend who will be Supportive of you
You have to be Honest with each other
You want your friend to be Irreplaceable
You have to be Patient with each other

Born To Be Me
I was born to be me not anyone else,
I was put into this world to live the life I'm living now.
Sometimes I wish to be someone else,
but in the end I am glad that I am me.
I’m here to be real, not to be perfect.
I’m here to excel
and not let anyone tell me what I can and can’t do.
I can do whatever I believe in.
Who are you?

Saying Goodbye
Saying goodbye is one of the hardest things to do
Whether it's saying goodbye to a family member,
A family friends
Or even a best friend
Saying goodbye is hard
What will you do without them?
But it all is a part of life
Sometimes I wish it wasn’t
You miss their laugh, and their smile.
You miss not being to see them whenever you want,
But you know they are in a better place, and you will see them again one day.

Cousins
Cousins are friends you will have forever.
Family who will forgive and forget.
People who will not judge you for what you do, but who will help you.
Cousins are people who you can count on to talk to.
They can make your day a little brighter.
                                   And life a little better.

Homework Assignment
I am running out of rhymes
           I only have 38 lines
                 I’m in quite a bind
This is wasting all my time
75 lines is such a crime
                                     I think it’s dinnertime

My Parents are Spies

My parents always told me to never go in the basement, so I never did, but it did make me very curious. My parents were always gone a lot because of their job. They were usually gone for a long time, so one day I decided that I was going to see what was in the basement. I turned the light on, and opened the door, then slowly started walking down the stairs. I was afraid of what I was going to find. I got to the bottom, and I saw a bunch of computers and trackers. It looked like a bunch of things a spy would use.
“Who are my parents?” I asked myself.
I turned on all the computers and everything, then I heard my parents talking, it was coming from a walkie talkie. They were on a mission.
“Is this why they are gone so much”? I found myself talking to myself.
I could not believe my parents were spies. This is why they were gone so much, and never want me in the basement. This was crazy, how could they keep this a secret?
I was going to go back upstairs, but I heard the door shut. I could hear my parents talking. If they find me down here I don't know what they will do to me. I found a place to hide, then I heard them walking down the stairs. I heard them talking about where they were going to go next, but it was a big mission and could not do it alone, and they were going to need to find help. That is when I popped out and told them that I wanted to be a spy too.
“It must run in the family,” I said excitedly.
My parents were not to fond of this idea, but I told them that I would work as hard as I possibly could. They finally gave in and said that I would have to start training as soon as I could. Training was going to begin the next day. I went to bed that night thinking about how hard the training was going to be, but I knew that it would all be worth it.
It was time for training, and I did not know how it was going to be. We started with just a regular workout, it was not very hard. Then after that the real spy workout came. They turned on lasers and I had to try to get through them. They set off loud noises and traps. I passed everything. I guess being a spy is in my blood. I asked my parents about the mission that they said they needed help on. They told me it was very dangerous and that they needed lots of help. I told them that I was ready, and I wanted to go. I could tell that they were debating whether to let me go or not, but they told me that I did really well with my training. They said that they would think about it and would tell me in the morning.
I got up the next day and ran downstairs to hear what my parents were going to say. I got to the kitchen and they handed me a pen. I asked what it was for and they told me to press the button. It was a laser pen. This meant that I get to join my parents. They said the spy mission is very dangerous. I wondered what it was going to be like. They said to get packed because we are headed to South America. I had never even been out of the state, now I am flying out of the country. I knew being a spy was going to be fun.
I asked my parents how we were going to get to South America, and they told me that the people they worked for had a private plane. We got to South America and went into a lab. It was very different than a usual lab and had a bunch of gadgets. It was time to start my first mission.
*20 years later*
I was living in the same house that my parents had when I was younger. I had added a lock to the basement door. My parents moved out and retired from being spies. Everyone in the spy industry had told me how good they were. They also said how I was just like them. I decided that I would keep the job as a spy. Now it is 20 years later and I had children of my own. I knew how I found out my parents were spies and I did not want them to figure out the same way because the job of being a spy is dangerous. They were twins a girl and a boy who were fifteen, and that is why I had to add the lock to the door. The girl's name was Carly and she had long, blonde hair. The boy’s name was Nathan and he had short, blonde hair.
I was gone one day and I came back to the kids in the basement. I was thinking of a plan of what to tell them. I walked down to the basement and they had found everything. I decided that I would tell them the truth. They asked just like I did if they could become a spy. I didn’t know what to say, I thought that it would be unfair if I wouldn't let them become spies because my parents let me when I was that age.
I told them they could, and they asked me how I became a spy. I told them the whole story, and why I put the lock on the door. I found myself in the same situation as my parents were in. I told them about their Grandma and Grandpa about how they were spies too.

Chase Your Dreams

Smack! The crowd cheers as Jess, the starting freshman hits the ball. The crowd goes wild as the game gets closer and closer to the game point. The score was 24-23, one more point until the game was over, and the Wolves win the game. Bailey, the best server, was up to serve. It was such a nerve racking time for the crowd, and for the players. Bailey threw the ball up and hit it. The serve went over the net and the libero from the other team passed the ball. The ball came right back over the net. The ball was set up to Jess, Jess went up, and smack! She hit the ball and it hit the floor! The crowd, the coaches, and the team were jumping up and down and cheering! The Wolves made it to state volleyball!
After the game, the team came out of the locker room. Everyone was congratulating everyone. The team was going to go celebrate.
“Everyone can come to my place,” Bailey said.
Everyone hopped into a car and headed off to Bailey’s. Jess got in with Bailey, and then they were on the road. Bailey’s phone started ringing, but her phone was in her bag in the back seat. She went to go grab her bag and then the car started swerving onto the other side of the road.
“Bailey what are you doing? There is a car coming! Grab the wheel!” Jess at this point was screaming at Bailey, and then crash. Everything went dark.
“Get them out of here.”
“Start the IV’s.”
“Does she have a heart beat?”
That was all Jess could hear. She was put on a gurney and was carried to the ambulance.
“Grab her phone, find her parents’ numbers”.
All Jess was thinking about was if she going to be okay, and where Bailey was? Once again, everything went dark.
*At the hospital*
“Where is Bailey?” that was all Jess was saying to the nurse who was trying to help her.
“Where is she?”
“Honey, let's concentrate on getting you better,” the nurse replied.
Jess’ parents arrived at the hospital. They were sitting in Jess’ room while Jess was napping. The doctors came into her room and told them that their daughter was very lucky, and that she only has a few bumps and bruises and a sprained ankle. Jess’ parents asked how Bailey was, and they told them that she was not doing too well. She was suffering from brain damage, and she is in a coma, fighting for her life.
Jess woke up just in time to hear that “she is fighting for her life”
“Are you talking about Bailey?” Jess asked looking worried and now sitting up.
“Sweetie, Bailey is going to be fine.”
“No she’s not. I heard the whole conversation with the doctors” Jess said, now getting mad.
“Jess, she will be fine, she is going to live. She is fighting for her life right now. You are a lucky girl!”
“I know mom.”
*A few days later*
Bailey still hasn't came out of her coma. It has been 3 days and she still hasn't woken up. Jess has been going to volleyball practice because state volleyball was in just 2 days. She has been going to the hospital everyday to sit, and wait with Bailey. Today when Jess went to the hospital to sit with Bailey, the doctors came rushing in. All Jess could hear were doctors talking, and then a loud, long beep. That moment was the most devastating point in Jess’ life. Her best friend had just passed away.
The next day at practice Jess told the team. They were heartbroken, but now they had something to play for the next day at state. The team now was practicing harder than ever. They wanted to win for their best friend Bailey.  It was the end of practice, and the girls said that they were going to make t-shirts and bows in the color red because that was Bailey’s favorite color. They went out and got their t-shirts and made bows. The shirts said Bailey’s name on them.
The next day it was the state tournament. The team rode the bus, and it was just an hour before game time. They went into their locker room and got ready, then prayed for their best friend and hoped that Bailey was watching over them today. They were ready to play and win for Bailey, they ran out of the locker room and started warming up. The team they were playing was number 1 in the state, so it was going to be a tough game to win.
It was time to start the game, the announcer announced the starters names and then he asked everyone to bow their heads in silence for the death of Bailey. After the moment of silence, it was time for the game. The first serve was over the net, the ball was set up to Jess and she slammed it to the floor. The first point was the Wolves. The game went back and forth. It was almost the end of the game and the score was 24-23 the Wolves were ahead. It was the other team’s serve. They served it over and it was set up once again to Jess, she wanted to win the game so badly for her best friend, then she went up and slammed the ball again, right into the ground. The Wolves just won state Volleyball!

The Story of Kellen Morrison

You hear the doctor tell you, “Your son has been diagnosed with cancer.” From that moment forward it changed the Morrison’s lives forever. Kellen Morrison was diagnosed with stage four Burkitt's Lymphoma on November 18, 2014. They first started noticing something was wrong when Julie noticed he had begun to talk funny. At first they thought it was his allergies so they gave him allergy medicine. When that didn’t help, they thought it was a sinus infection and they tried treating it with an antibiotic. They continued giving him the antibiotic until they noticed that Kellen was having trouble breathing.
The next morning Julie took Kellen to the doctors office. They thought it could be his adenoids, so he was referred to an ENT. When the ENT told Kellen to stick out his tongue, The ENT could see the tumor in Kellen’s throat. The following day, November 18th, the tumor was removed. The doctors tested the tumor and when the test results came back, Julie and Kelly knew that it was going to be a hard process, but they were going to try their best for Kellen.
According to the doctors, Burkitt's Lymphoma is very uncommon; it usually only affects kids. Once they found out Kellen was diagnosed with cancer they started Chemotherapy right away. Kellen had to go through all four rounds of Chemo. His first round of Chemo started on November 20th , and it ended on December 2nd. Kellen’s treatments were estimated to be about 6 months long, but it could have been more or less depending on if he stayed healthy.
During this whole process Kellen didn’t really know how sick he actually was. Julie and Kelly were a little frightened by the idea of telling their 7 year old little boy that he was very sick and will be at the hospital a lot. Julie said that Kellen took the news very well, he and wanted to get better as soon as possible. They talked to Kellen and told him that they were going to make him feel better, and that they were going to kill all of the bad cells in his body. Kellen was a little afraid of the battle, but he had his friends and family to help him through it.  Kellen knew that cancer was going to make him lose his hair but he wanted to get better, so he knew what he had to do. Kellen shaved his head before all of his hair fell out. The doctors told him that it would grow back, but it might be a different color or it could be curly. Kellen knew one thing for sure; he did not want curly hair! Kellen thought that he looked funny, so Kelly, his dad, shaved his head so that Kellen wouldn't feel alone.
While Kellen was fighting cancer at the same time as  his teacher was. She came to visit him in the hospital, and she gave him a Minecraft sword. She told him that she had one too. She also told him that they were going to fight cancer together. Kellen had gotten lots of toys and electronics because he had to be in the hospital a lot. His favorite gift was from the school. They had given him an iPad, so he could facetime and be in class with his friends. Most of all Kellen liked playing games on it more that anything else. Kellen loved his video games, so when his big brother, Kolby, came to the hospital he brought their Wii and all of their other gaming devices and all of Kellen’s favorite games, which definitely included Minecraft.
Kellen had loved one nurse and he disliked another one very much. Kellen had a fear of band-aids and when he had to get a shot while he was sleeping one nurse put a band aid on it but little did she know that Kellen had hated band aids and when he woke up he was not going to be very happy. Kellen was becoming more and more weak because of the Chemotherapy. To keep Kellen moving and out of the room and playing his video games the doctors and nurses let him play with the hospital dog, and that was one of his favorite things to do. The dog kept Kellen moving and exercising without Kellen even knowing it. Other days Kellen took tours of the hospital to keep moving instead of him becoming weaker. Kellen met lots of new people at the hospital. Kellen could tell that he was becoming more fragile, but he knew he was going to get better. Over time Kellen was not getting better; he was getting worse. Kylie, his older sister, was very sad, and she did not like seeing Kellen sick. Kellen had always loved coming to the basketball tournaments with Kylie, and he always wanted to play hide-and-seek with us in the hotel. Kylie invited us all to come see him before one of our practices.
Seeing Kellen was a sad time. He did not look like the energetic, funny, and little dancer that I remembered. Before going into the room we had to get masks and use hand sanitizer. When I walked into the room Kellen did not look like the same little guy that I remembered. He had looked very weak. He was very tired because of all the medicine that he had to take. We talked to him, and hearing his voice was just enough to make us all cry. He could barely talk. It was just a little louder than a whisper. We loved Kellen and it was very hard seeing him like that.
Kellen was not doing very well, and he had to be flown to Seattle for a stem cell transplant. Kellen was a little scared at this point in time. Kellen was scared, but a little excited to go on a plane because he had never been on one. The whole family went on the plane to Seattle as soon as they could. They could only do the transplant if his T-cells were up to count, but at that point in time they were very low, so for the next week they continued with Chemo-therapy, but Kellen was not getting any better. They tried to see if the stem cell transplant would work one more time before they knew there was nothing else they could do. They told Julie that his counts were to low to do anything, and then Julie knew what this meant.
They got Kellen back to Children's Hospital in Omaha, and by the next few days they were letting Kellen go home. When they arrived back home they had signs everywhere in their yard for Kellen. Then when they pulled into the garage they saw a brand new golf cart with Kellen’s name on it! Kellen was super excited,  and he wanted to drive it. Before he was even in the house he started driving it with Kolby and Kylie. He had loved that he got to go home, and he didn't know why he got to go home. Kellen’s Make-a-Wish was to swim with the dolphins, so Julie and Kelly bought a pool and were getting it set up for Kellen and put blow up dolphins in the pool. Once they got it all set up for Kellen to swim in that night. They had to take him in before he got to swim.
A few hours later Julie had noticed that Kellen was not breathing very well. Julie went to call for help, but her phone started playing a song, the song was called “The Best Day of My Life”.  If anyone knew Julie she is not very good with phones and she didn’t even know how the song started playing or even how it got on her phone. Julie was freaking out trying to get the phone to stop playing, but then finally Kelly just said to let it play and once the song was over Kellen stopped breathing. They were devastated to see Kellen pass, but they thought this song was a message from Kellen telling them that he was going to be alright. It was devastating news to hear, but he is in a better place and now. Kellen passed away on May 6th, 2015 when he was 8 years old. This news can change a family's life forever.
